Up and coming alt-rockers Adelphia first sprang onto the scene from Nottingham in early 2013. Despite their career still being in its infancy, the four piece ensemble have managed to accomplish quite a bit over the last two years. In addition to putting out an EP and several singles, the band have graced the pages of Kerrang and Rock Sound, as well having been featured by BBC Introducing. They’ve also taken to the stage at a number of prestigious festivals, including Download.
The video for their new single, “If I Fall”, recently premiered on Scuzz TV following airplay on Kerrang Radio in the UK. A hefty post-hardcore riff ushers the track in ahead of a mellow harmony. The instrumentation grows and builds momentum during the verse, breaking into a chorus loaded with raw emotion and pleading lyrics. It’s a fairly innocuous anthem, whose passionate execution is admirable. The video can be found on the band’s Youtube channel, along with those for previous singles “Do Your Worst” and “Lost at Sea”.
Both tracks unfold in a similar manner to the foursome’s latest offering. “Do Your Worst” is introduced via a vigorous riff that tones down as the verse sets in. The chorus erupts back into energetic guitars and percussion, while the lyrics convey feelings of pain and torment. “Lost at Sea” is somewhat more reserved, with sobering instrumentation and another remorseful harmony. Things become more hectic musically towards the end but the vibe remains sorrowful and introspective throughout.
Adelphia play it fairly safe with the material they’ve produced so far. It’s downbeat but it’s also harmless enough and radio friendly. While there’s not a lot of diversity in sound and theme between singles, the talent and potential are definitely there. “If I Fall” is available on iTunes now.
