Meath musician Alan Kavanagh made his debut in the world of music nearly ten years ago when he graced the nation’s TV screens as a contestant on the RTE talent show You’re a Star. After finishing as one the programme’s top six contenders, he went on to carve out quite a lucrative career for himself.
The past decade has seen the Ashbourne based artist tour the country alongside acts such as The Coronas, Luan Parle and Christy Dignam, as well as selling out performances in his home county and enjoying chart success with his inaugural single, “Sorry Sincerely”. On top of this, he’s also managed to win praise from a number of noteworthy Irish media personalities, including Joe Duffy, Linda Martin and Louis Walsh.
Most recently though, he headed off to Donegal to work with producer Mattie Foxx on his latest track, “Soft Morning”. It introduces itself via quiet keys before a soft serenade sets in to establish an affecting atmosphere. The rhythm remains relaxed on the way forward as the vocals increase in vigour and vibrancy while the instrumentation becomes more uplifting and optimistic.
There’s an extremely soothing sound to the whole thing as it glides gracefully across mellow melodies and placid pianos. It all eventually culminates in a captivating climactic chorus made up of amiable music and stirring singing. The outcome is a warm and affable folk affair, the accessible style of which is sure to make its appeal wide-reaching.
