Ever since Daisy Ridley hit the big screen in her feature film debut, a little known movie by the name of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, she has been in quite the demand. This trend looks set to continue if the reports coming out of Deadline are to be believed, with Ridley currently in pole position to star as Lara Croft in the new Tomb Raider reboot.

Warner Bros and MGM are teaming up to make a new big screen adaptation of the cult video game series and both studios are keen to secure Ridley as the fearless archaeologist. Angelina Jolie has previously played the heroine in 2001 and 2003, neither were particularly good but did go on to become the highest-grossing video game adaptations in cinema history.

Rumours of a franchise reboot have been rumbling since 2013, when the Tomb Raider video game series was itself rebooted. Instead the cartoon-esque features and lighthearted tone of the game was replaced with a much darker gameplay and character origin story.

It is important to note that Deadline are reporting that only “conversations have taken place” between Ridley and the studio, so read into that what you will. In any case, Ridley can expect a busy few months as she is currently filming Star Wars: Episode VIII, which Irish cinema goers can expect on our screens in December 2017.
