Having recently lost out on first choice director J.A. Bayona (who opted for the upcoming Jurassic World sequel), Brad Pitt has set his sights on nabbing David Fincher to direct World War Z 2, which Pitt is producing and starring in.
According to Variety, Pitt has already met with a handful of directors but both he and the powers that be over at Paramount and Skydance have settled on Fincher as their preferred choice. Pitt sat down with Fincher two weeks ago in an attempt to entice him into signing on to the as of yet untitled sequel. Although reports suggest that Fincher was lukewarm to the idea, the more detailed the negotiations became, the more Fincher began to welcome the idea to signing on the dotted line.
If Fincher does agree terms, it will be the third time the acclaimed director will have worked alongside Pitt, having previously brought us Se7evn, Fight Club and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.
It will mark a return to the big screen for Fincher after directing the pilot of Netflix’s Mind Hunters.
As for the planned sequel, not much is known about it other than audiences can expect Pitt back in the lead role as Gerry Lane. If the stars do indeed align, production is expected to begin early next year with a release date expected for sometime in 2018.
