The trailer for the upcoming Patriots Day has finally made its way online and will be the first of two movies focusing on the harrowing events of April 15 2013 in which the Tsarnaev brothers coordinated a terrorist attack during the annual Boston Marathan, where 5 people lost their lives and over 270 were injured.
Produced and starring Mark Wahlberg in collaboration with director Peter Berg, Patriots Day follows police sergeant Tommy Saunders (Wahlberg) who finds himself involved in the desperate hunt for the unknown bombers, fearing yet another attack may be possible. Based on the real life accounts of those involved, Tommy works alongside FBI Special Agent Richard Deslauriers (Kevin Bacon), Commissioner Ed Davis (John Goodman), Sergeant Jeffrey Pugliese (JK Simmons) and Saunders’ medical tech wife Carol (Michelle Monaghan) in a movie which will have to approach the subject matter incredibly sensitively as the horrifying event is still fresh in the minds of many.
Meanwhile Jake Gyllenhaal will portray bomb survivor Jeff Bauman, who lost both his legs in the attack, in Stronger. Based on Bauman’s novel of the same name, Stronger will be directed by David Gordon Green and features Orphan Black actress Tatiana Maslany.
Patriots Day is scheduled to hit cinema screens nationwide on January 27 next year.
