Any user of the interweb will know how utterly frustrating pop ups and ads can be, this is why the Chrome Adblock extension is a valuable tool to any web surfer. The basic extension is free and well worth adding onto your browser , there is also a paid version called AdBlock Plus.
It is now being alleged that some of the biggest online companies (such as Google) may have been paying to get around Adblock Plus, according to the Financial Times. It seems these companies may be paying the Adblock developer to allow them to bypass the plug-in.
While this is far from being the end of the world for most users it raises more questions with regard our privacy online, targeted ads and our lack of control over the content we are shown.
