Online phenomenon Hannah Trigwell has lent her vocals to German pop duo Juno Im Park’s cover of the Rick Astley classic ‘Never Gonna Give You Up’, released today (July 28th) on Universal.
With Rick Astley having just secured both a UK no.1 album and a silver record, alongside British supporters of the European Union unofficially adopting the song and slogan as “Never Gonna Give EU Up”, the long-planned collaboration has unintentionally surfed the zeitgeist to become extremely topical.
Juno Im Park are Daniel Finke and Nico Pisano, two 20-year-old musicians from Stuttgart, who are making waves in Germany with their eclectic brand of electronic music. Giving the 80’s pop masterpiece a complete musical makeover they have delivered a perfect Balearic house smash hit, topped off with Hannah Trigwell’s gorgeous vocals.
The video reflects the halcyon days of summer, cutting between Juno Im Park and Hannah performing the track by a pool and a young couple in love, hanging out with friends, climaxing with a sun-drenched beach party.
The collaboration follows Hannah’s exceptional support slot with Walk Off The Earth at Brixton Academy earlier this month. Going down a storm, The Upcoming described her as exhibiting an “extraordinary voice and vocal range” and summing up the set as “outstanding”.
Hannah first found fame across the globe through uploading videos of her performances to YouTube, and now boasts more subscribers than Cheryl and Paloma Faith. The YouTube Foundry, which supports the platform’s most successful artists, has also backed her, shooting an exclusive documentary on her monumental rise, which can be seen HERE.
Having garnered 70 million views, numerous top ten international singles, including two Number One singles in Laos and Vietnam and more than 500,000 total followers online, Hannah Trigwell’s journey is a unique one, demonstrating the birth of a truly contemporary pop star who has an extraordinarily exciting path ahead.
Her online success hasn’t gone unnoticed at home either, with The Sun tipping her in their ‘Hot For 2016’ list, as well as being featured in The Independent and The Telegraph, alongside a chat on ITV’s Loraine. Her growing celebrity fan-base includes One Direction’s Louis Tomlinson and Ed Sheeran.
