Some exciting news released today from the INDIE16 camp, revealing that The Mitchelstown Forum has teamed up with Cork County Council and Indiependence Music & Arts Festival to launch a new initiative aimed at supporting young musicians and providing a stage for them at one of Ireland’s most popular music festivals.

The Mitchelstown Music Trail will see musicians performing in and outside Mitchelstown businesses on Saturday July 30 and Sunday July 31 between midday and 3pm, availing of the huge audiences that Indiependence brings to the town each summer. There will also be an opportunity for one lucky band or artist to win a slot at next year’s festival by winning an Under 18s busking competition. The prize also includes a recording session in Monorail Studios.

“It’s fantastic to be involved in bringing a portion of the event back to the streets of Mitchelstown,” said Indiependence organiser Shane Dunne. “The support that Indie is receiving from the businesses of Mitchelstown is fantastic and we hope that this event, which is funded and supported by Cork County Council and The Mitchelstown Forum, will help to ensure it’s a great weekend not only at Deer Farm but also on the streets of Mitchelstown.”

Now in its eleventh year, Indiependence has grown from the Mitchelstown Square into one of the country’s most successful music festivals, with approximately 10,000 people due at INDIE16 this year. It has continued to bring an excellent mix of Irish and international headliners to the County Cork town, with this year’s festival featuring The Kooks, Bell X1, Walking on Cars, Editors and Ash among others. Tickets have been selling in record numbers for INDIE16 and organisers hope to be able to announce another sold out festival at the end of the month.

There is an open invitation for Mitchelstown businesses to become involved in the new Mitchelstown Music Trail and those interested in participating are asked to contact alice@indiependencefestival.com before Wednesday July 13.
