Magnum PI set to be revived in TV reboot

With just about anything and everything receiving the reboot/remake treatment, it was merely only a matter of time before Magnum PI was added to that list.

Originally airing in the 1980’s, Magnum PI was famously portrayed by Tom Selleck and his magnificent moustache wooing scantily clad women, basking in the sun, driving fast cars and even had his own butler in the form of Higgins (John Hillerman).

The reboot version is being moulded by writer/producer John Rogers and will focus on Magnum’s daughter Lily, who along with her friends work to solve crimes and discover what exactly went wrong during a spy operation which tarnished her naval career. Just who will portray Lily is yet to be seen, but it does leave the option open for a potential guest or recurring role for Selleck.

The show is set to be co-produced by Eva Longoria and Ben Spector, who had the following to say in a statement released to Deadline; “We knew no one could replace the iconic role of Thomas Magnum, so John decided to make the reboot a sequel and continue the adventure of a Magnum — his daughter, who was established in the original series.”

ABC are expected to snap up the rights for the US market, with no confirmation as to who, when or where Irish audiences can expect to see Magnum.
