Megan O’Neill is an Irish singer-songwriter who originally comes from Kildare and has moved as far as Nashville to hone her skills, writing and singing her own music and now lives in London. Signed by Milestone Management last year, Megan is releasing her five-track EP Coming Home on May 1st. The EP was recorded and produced by Philip Magee, who also has worked with the popular Irish band Kodaline.

O’Neill has seen a number of successes recently, including performing in the O2 Arena in London at the ‘Country 2 Country’ Festival, where she took part along with acts such as Lady Antebellum, Florida Georgia Line and Luke Bryan. O’Neill also performed at JJ Abram’s Oscar Wilde party in LA in February and has had one of her songs from the EP included in an episode of the major US TV show ABC’s Nashville (2012) which aired in December. Megan spent two years living in Nashville, Tennessee, working with well-known country music writers such as Marc Beeson, Billy Austin and John Edwards. She now lives in London collaborating with pop writers and has plans to jet back and forth between LA, Nashville and London.

Her sound is heavily country influenced, which is evident in the narrative lyrics and in her vocal style. From the slow and sweet parts building to the uplifting chorus, her songs are a country and pop music fusion that makes her EP very easy to listen to. Her voice is clean, crisp and has a great range and tone. Megan O’Neill proves that she may very well be the next big name in country, and of course, the next big name on the Irish charts.

Her single ‘I Wish I Could Love You More’ is out now, listen to it here. The upbeat song about love and longing demonstrates O’Neill’s voice and song-writing style. With the acoustic guitar, piano and O’Neill’s strong vocals the track is the right choice for the single. The other four tracks on the EP are very similar in style and sound and one thing I would hope to hear from O’Neill’s next album is something a bit different that shakes things up more. There is something about her voice that makes me want to hear an edgier, grittier sound thrown into the mix.

With clear talent, creativity and a strong EP that is well put together. There is definitely more to come from this artist in the near future.

Coming Home is out on May 1st. You can listen to it on Soundcloud
