Neil Thomas is an indie/folk musician from Hull, England who has just released his EP titled Breaking Out in March and is set for digital release on April 24th. Neil Thomas has a rich voice that has an edge of rock to it but with the softness of folk. His voice is reminiscent of The Stunning vocalist Steve Wall and has a hint of Oasis’ Liam Gallagher. Thomas has recorded a live session on ‘BBC Introducing’ that you can watch here and he has recently supported British folk/rock band This Is The Kit on their European tour.
The five songs on the EP are rich with melodic guitar, percussion and soothing vocals. The first track is ‘Wallflowers’ which establishes the style and atmosphere of the collection. It is a sound that you can get lost to and that will also seep into your skin and get you moving as well.
Neil Thomas’s almost effortless mastery of the guitar is evident throughout the EP and he clearly favours the finger-picking style. There is also a ukulele which features in the fourth track ‘Jenny Let Go’ that gives a different sound and feel to the track. There’s a great bass line in the second track ‘Hidden Hills’ that gives the song a nice beat and when each element of the song comes together, the bass, the guitar, the vocals, the percussion, it works wonderfully.
Neil Thomas has a lot to offer and he is definitely one to watch. If indie and folk music is what you like then ‘Breaking Out’ is going to be right up your street.
