Irish indie rock act Penrose began as the brainchild of guitarist/vocalist Darragh McGrane and fellow musician Phil O’Luanaigh back in 2013 before evolving into a quintet that currently comprises McGrane, Mark Bolger, Benji Hayes, Donal Bowens and Caolan Fitzsimons. After unleashing their debut EP, Live for the Dream, to much ado in 2015, the dexterous Dubliners proceeded to put out several more successful singles, winning recognition from the likes of RTE, Today FM and FM104 ahead of a string of shows across the UK and Ireland, including a sell-out performance at their hometown’s Academy 2. Penrose are also shortlisted in the 2017 Pure M Awards for ‘Best Music Video’ with ‘Harmony’, directed by Anthony White.
Most recently though, the fervent fivesome unveiled the video for a brand new track entitled “Let’s Go Out”. Written by McGrane and recorded at Westland Studios, the enthrallingly tranquil four and a half minute tune is introduced through an affable riff which washes warmly across the senses on the way to the relaxing refrain of the affecting first verse. This sets the scene for a soft yet spirited chorus, after which the spotlight shifts to another enticingly serene stanza. A tremendously touching instrumental exhibition follows from here before the whole thing culminates in an incredibly cogent coalescence of cordial singing, pleasant guitars and gentle drumming.
Penrose have put together an alluringly light yet enlivening pop/rock piece here that keeps compelling placid yet passionate as it plays out. Its amiable mixture of mellow melodies and meditative music should win over a wide audience. Be sure to scroll down to investigate “Let’s Go Out” and its accompanying music video for yourself now.
Penrose will perform a Special Hometown gig in Swans Curragha, Co. Meath on Friday, August 11 at 8 PM. Support by Electric Shore.
