For twenty years we have been trying to “catch em all”, and Nintendo plan to celebrate with the re-release of the GameBoy classics Pokémon Red and Blue.
The Nintendo 3DS bundle will release on February 27th, which will contain a New Nintendo 3DS handheld and pre-installed copies of both Pokémon Red and Blue. The classic titles will also release on the Nintendo 3DS eShop along with Pokémon Yellow (which will not be included in the bundle) on the same date.
Collectors will be pleased to hear that the bundle will include two special edition face-plates for their New 3DS – featuring the original GameBoy cover art, along with a download code for a Pokémon home menu theme.
To mark their 20th anniversary, The Pokémon Company will be releasing a number of new Pokémon-related items within the next twelve months. There will be a Pokémon Super Bowl advertisement, a new Trading Card Game (TCG) expansion, and Wii U owners can look forward to more Pokémon Amiibos.
Furthermore, a host of Pokémon movies are returning in newly-remastered form, and will made available on Amazon Prime, Google Play, and iTunes.
Finally, Pokkén Tournament, the Wii U port of the Japanese arcade title is headed to the west this spring. This new IP is a crossover, which merges the universe of Pokémon with the traditional fighting style of Tekken.
The Official Pokémon Channel uploaded a new video titled, “#Pokemon20: Celebrate 20 Years of Pokémon!” The video maps out the upcoming year for fans.
Pokemon Red, Blue and Yellow will be available digitally on the Nintendo 3DS eShop on February 27th, 2016.
