I always hear people say that there is no good music out there, well at least nothing new. Well I really believe that to be completely untrue. For example, in the upcoming months alone there is a string of really exciting releases lined up and we’re going to give you a taste, a preview, an introduction or an eye-opener here, depending on your stance.
The Maine – American Candy
Arizona rock band The Maine’s fifth studio album is scheduled for release on March 31 and if it follows in the vain of their previous effort: Forever Halloween then it’s sure to be a sure fire hit. One of my favourite albums of 2013 FH was where The Maine showed they were capable of producing some really engaging rock music. First single “English Girls” continues in the same direction.
The Wombats – Glitterbug
The Wombats’ second album: The Wombats Proudly present: This Modern Glitch was exactly what most Wombats fans expected and wanted. Continuing on from the themes of their first release, which were steeped in anxiety and despair, it was honest and raw music, without losing any of the classic Wombat charm. Hopefully, Glitterbug will be a rousing success, and if lead single Greek Tragedy is anything to go by, it will.
Purity Ring – Another Eternity
Purity Ring’s sophomore effort is one I am particularly excited about. Their debut Shrines was one of my favourite releases of 2012 and singles Lofticries and Belispeak were two particular favourites. For those who have never heard of the Canadian duo, I would describe them as a darker, electronic version of The XX.
Modest Mouse – Strangers to Ourselves
Modest Mouse are one of the most recognisable indie rock bands of recent times because of the distinct vocals of Isaac Brock. Their newest single Lampshades On Fire is a return to their classic distinct style and gives lots of encouragement that their first album in eight years will be a hit. Strangers to Ourselves is scheduled to be released on March 3.
Kendrick Lamar – TBD
Although Kendrick Lamar’s third albums release date is yet to be determined, as is the albums name, Kendrick’s previous efforts and his first two singles from this one are enough to assume it has the potential to be his most masterful release to date. He recently won “Best Rap Song” at this years Grammys for lead single “i” and then released his second single “The Blacker The Berry” to critical acclaim.
