As the dust settles on the inaugural Canalaphonic festival, we’ll try and ease you back into ‘real life’ with these wonderful little ditties. It’s the second instalment of Pure M Picks, and as ever we’re giving you a wide range of genres to listen to.

Our track of the week is from The Smoking Giants.

The Smoking Giants – Push it Forward

Irish rock is still in good hands it would seem. “Push it Forward” is the debut single from the band and it’s a cracker. Also worth checking out is the Bill Hicks inspired “Return From Exile”.

Disconcerting P – Hey Man

The Kildare native has written a fantastic album, and “Hey Man” is the stand-out track.

Otherkin – Ay Ay

Best played loud, Otherkin’s new single ticks all the boxes for classic rock tune.

Here is Your Temple – Equivoke

Moody, synth-y, and damn good. “Equivoke” is the lead single from the Swedish group’s upcoming album.

Frozen Houses – Stars on the Boulevard

With vocals reminiscent of Robert Plant, this song is the right amount of dreamy. A lovely track.

Ross Nevin – Circles

Incorporating elements of jazz and classical, this Dublin multi-instrumentalist has delivered some beautiful music.

Megacone – Ouncy Castle

Tremendously catchy rock from Dublin’s instrumental five piece.

The Tailor Made – Sadist

Strap yourself in, here’s the heaviest track of our picks this week. The hook-filled “Sadist” comes from the band’s new EP.

Maria Shiel – Star

Describing her style as ‘future-folk’ is pretty bold, but Star is a delightful number whatever you want to call it.

Abandcalledboy – Paul Simon’s Daily Routine

Quirky titles aside, the Belfast band have created some proper good tunes. “Paul Simon’s Daily Routine” being a perfect example.
