Redtwelve is a four piece rock ensemble from the County Louth town of Dundalk, featuring Ciaran Boylan on guitar and vocals, Keith Mulholland on drums and vocals, Peter Walters on guitar and Seán McArdle on bass. Since springing to life in 2011, the band have received a lot of acclaim, including a Meteor Music Award nomination for “Most Promising New Act”.
They’ve also been consistently active on the live scene, fulfilling supporting slots for such renowned acts as The Frames, Bellx1, Josh Ritter and Duke Special. Last summer saw them take to the stage at several Irish festivals as well, including Vantasival and Philfest.
Most recently though, the quartet have been hard at work readying their forthcoming live EP for its August 15th release date. The compilation, which will have its launch show at The Spiritstore in Dundalk the same day it drops, follows on from previous efforts “The Everwanted” and “Purple Lady”, which arrived in December 2013 and May 2014, respectively.
To whet appetites while they finish polishing the new record, the band have chosen to unleash the single “Get Away”. This latest offering takes off with an energetic electric riff that runs quickly in the direction of a laid back but lively verse. The music picks up the tempo on the approach to a fast and forceful chorus as the vocals become more passionate.
Afterwards, things tone back down but maintain a steady speed before the track gets its second wind and charges off again. A spirited instrumental breakdown arrives at the two minute mark, thrilling as its riveting riff puts on a charismatic and characterful display. It serves as an enthralling lead into the final furious lyrical narration ahead of the momentarily lingering guitars that close the curtain.
“Get Away” is an incredibly energetic undertaking, whose harmless demeanour and radio friendly rock style make for a listening experience that is both pleasant and exciting. You can check it out for yourself on Spotify now, while all of the news and updates on the upcoming EP and gigs can be found on Facebook and Twitter.
