First there was Avril, then we got the Biebs, Carly Rae, Shawn Mendes and now we’re getting Shawn Hook. What’s different about the latter however is that there are were no covers, no viral YouTube videos and no overnight success. There was simply hard work, talent and determination. Yes Canada may have exported many a superstar over recent years, but next in line is the amazing Mr. Hook. Having studied piano from a very early age and later taking on the trombone, it was obvious from the start that there was both a passion and a love of music from him. Technically Shawn first debuted over 10 years ago under his real name “Shawn Hlookoff“, but it’s only now that his music is being served up all over the world. In 2008 he became the first Artist/Songwriter to be signed to ABC Studios in Los Angeles where he went on to have compositions featured in several TV shows. He even had a song “Without You” make its premiere on MTV’s biggest show at the time, The Hills, (you know, the show we were all obsessed with but never admitted to watching – Oh Lauren!) and he even had an acting role on the hit TV show Bones.
After acquiring the name Shawn Hook he released his debut album “Cosmonaut and the Girl” but it was until his 2014 hit “Million Ways” when he started to achieve a following and gain popularity. “Sound Of Your Heart” was first released in the summer of 2015 off the album “Analog Love“, but it wasn’t until Hook went onto sign a major record deal with Hollywood Records (home of Demi Lovato, Zendaya, and Queen) in early 2016, that the label decided to make it a worldwide release. Hook finally had the platform he worked so hard for and the song was garnering airplay all over the world. The pop/rock number is about that feeling we’ve all had when you miss someone you love. Hook opens with “You were my courage, my sword, my shield” instantly introducing us to how important this person is. In the accompanying video Shawn sings “Baby I’m in love with you, and I’m missing the sound of your heart beating” as he sits at a grand piano yearning for that lost love. The almost-dark visual depicts just how strong his feelings are for this person and that he’s near to incapable of living a normal life without them. “Say the words and I’ll come running” proves the lengths someone will go to have that person back in their lives. Hook belts out the catchy number with an impressive vocal range creating a sound like no one else right now. His homeland may have spawned some of the biggest names in the world, but none of which are like him.
I think it’s about time we all get hooked on Shawn Hook!
