Indie rock ensemble Zen Project first sprang to life in the North West England town of Widnes a little over two years ago. Currently consisting of guitarist/vocalist David Pye, guitarist Craig Davies, bassist Andrew Frater, drummer Stuart Dunn and keyboardist Mal Keenan, the band have been doing their best to make a name for themselves on the live scene ever since.
Their material is heavily influenced by rock of all ages and subgenres, which gives it a tasty old school flavour while simultaneously affording it a captivating contemporary edge. In a bid to keep the ball rolling and continue expanding their audience, the quintet are currently hard at work on the music video for their nifty new single, “Searching”.
The track fades into an upbeat and enthusiastic riff that builds briefly before exploding into an uproar of energetic instrumentation. There’s an affecting undertone to the music as it races towards vigorous vocals which exude a whole lot of fire and fury during the opening verse. It soon arrives at a cutting chorus that really radiates through the senses as it echoes passionately across the air.
Another arresting exhibition of guitars and percussion follows to the bridge the gap to the second stanza. From here, things move forcefully forward as the heartfelt harmony oozes even more attitude and emotion than before. A short respite ensues ahead of a biting riff and determined drums that soon erupt again alongside vivid vocals. These all team up to make a charge at the finish line, ensuring that things end as ecstatically as they began.
The rapid rhythm, relentless momentum and overall melodic execution of this arresting rock anthem make a powerful impact. Zen Project know how to thrill through their music, which is a talent that’s guaranteed to win them plenty of fans going forward. “Searching” is due for release on August 3rd from “all reputable download sites”, while the band themselves can next be seen performing live at District in Liverpool on July 31st.
